Artist Statement
Christian’s paintings are an exploration and a celebration of our ongoing relationship with plants. Even as someone living in a very urban environment, the connection is still there. Whether it's the vegetables in the fridge, or the daffodils that show up every spring, we depend on plants for the sustenance of both body and soul. His paintings seek inspiration from that growing, plant energy. Their bursting floral colors and creeping, vining curves are channeled through his paintings via stenciled lines and shapes filled in with bright flashe paint.
Biography
Christian DeFilippo (b.1980, Bronx, NY) currently lives and works in Brooklyn, NY. He earned a BFA in painting from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2002. Christian is a painter and has also worked in collage and printmaking. He is a dedicated gardener and works professionally as a letterpress printer. Both of these fields have an influence on his creative process and approach towards artmaking.
