Richard Blake

Art From Hexagon Bridge

April 4 - April 26

Richard Blake studied painting at the Rhode Island School of Design (BFA) and Cornell University (MFA). After a solo show and several group exhibitions in New York City, Blake began to move away from fine art into a range of interests - from film, computer graphics, even working as a storyboard artist for feature length films. His years in New York eventually lead him to comics, a multi-faceted medium that concisely captures his fascinations with drawing, storytelling, and world-creation.

Hexagon Bridge, a project years in the making, was published by Image Comics as a mini-series and can now be found as a collected graphic novel. Pulling from enigmatic influences, Blake’s book uses the science fiction genre in ways exciting and revelatory, expanding upon the work of creators such as film maker Ridley Scott and comic creator Moebius. The exhibition at Kishka presents Blake’s artistic practice through painting, drawing, and preliminary studies, all of which buttress his published work as well as projects still in process. Blake currently lives and works in Peekskill, New York.
